Concept House - Lancaster, PA
This house was commissioned by a homebuilding magazine to explore the idea of good, workable, affordable housing. Three architects from three different geographical area were invited to come up with plans for a small, economical house that would meet the needs of a typical family. The plan shows how a family could start in a small way, with a single level. As the family and budget grew, the upstairs could be finished, a bedroom added and the garage enclosed. At the heart of the house is the high-ceilinged family room, open to its surrounding to increase its apparent size. The spacious master suite, designed to accommodate a home office or study, overlooks the family room. The living room is small and is centered on a two-sided fireplace. The simple, direct styling of this house is designed to fit into any neighborhood.
