Alfredo De Vido | Architects
54 Willow - Brooklyn, New York
In a district protected by New York City's landmark laws, the architect's solution was acceptable to both the Landmarks Preservation Commission and the local community. The detailing, which includes a cornice at the top of the building, an entrance feature, compatible brick color and jointing pattern, and a rusticated base, also respects the existing block, as does the arrangement of the windows. The entrance, located in the middle for reasons of planning and efficient apartment layout, is the facade's main embellishment, featuring a two-story columned recess.
