Alfredo De Vido | Architects
222 Columbia - Brooklyn, NY
The architects were selected to design a house on the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights, a Landmarks Preservation District noted for its Renaissance Revival style brownstones. To respect the character of these adjacent buildings, the architect's design brought the height of the house up to that of its neighbors. (The house contains a triplex unit, two condominium unites, and a rental unit.) The new house is also of masonry, enlivened by belt courses and cornices. The window arrangement in the house is similar to the those in the vicinity: large at the parlor floor and becoming smaller in the upper stories. These generous window areas bring natural light into all parts of the house. Within, spaces are contemporary in size and shape and generous window areas offer a splendid view of lower Manhattan.
