West House - East Hampton, New York
The program called for a tightly organized house of two stories, which would intrude as little as possible on the surrounding natural landscape. The design organizes the elements on the diagonal of a square with bedrooms and smaller spaces on one side and a tall living/dining space on the other. The spaces are grouped around the chimney mass, the symbolic center of the house. The concept is reflected on the exterior, where the roofs are pitched inwards and down to permit glazing on the exterior walls to catch views, light, and air.
