Berty House - East Hampton, New York
The planning of this house has been guided by environmental principles. Thermal efficiency has been built into the design with operable skylights and low windows which provide syphonic cooling in warm weather. The skylights are motor-driven and sensors control them to adjust the natural flow of air through the house. The house is partially dug into the earth which helps it maintain an even temperature. The house reflects vernacular architecture, bis built of wood, has pitched roof and is tow stories high with decks and a greenhouse to the rear.
