Drake House - Pound Ridge, New York
This rural site, sloping gently toward the lake, is bounded by a cliff on one side and wetlands on the other. Important considerations in planning the house included the desire for an indoor swimming pool and for as many rooms as possible to face the lake. Our solution was to place the entry to the house at mid level on the hill, with other rooms stepping up and down from it. Rooms are planned so that light enters from a variety of directions and windows capture the view. In the swimming pool area, a curving wall undulates toward the lake, adding a symbolic wave form.
