Armonk House - North Castle, New York
The owners wanted a garden room surrounding an indoor pool as the focus of their house, a view over a pond to the east, and use the solar energy where possible. The architects arranged a glass roof over the garden room to attain the south orientation. Due to the sloping site, the walls were stepped to catch the view. Solar collectors heat the pool water, raising the thermal efficiency and reducing the heating cost. Living areas are clustered around the garden room. Children's bedrooms are in a wing next to play/study area and the master bedroom is raised for privacy and views.
